June Dubus 2m CW event;

I'm still suffering an RX degradation problem. I have checked just about
everything in the system except the antennas (they're 45 feet up). I'm
hoping to get this resolved sometime soon.
I only managed to work W5UN.

I send you my final Dubus 2m cw activity event log, right after the end

of the 1st window, because i could not be active on 2nd, due soccer

commitments (new team presentation).

This morning i found really beautifull and rare conditions from my QTH.

I heard my echoes quite stable and strong as heard just a couple of

times, since i have installed my 4X19LLY array .

This good conditions was confirmed by the common high level of the

signal of the worked/heard stations.

I'm sorry to have not the possibility to be active on 2nd window,

because if conditions are like in the 1st.........

I was qrv in both passes of the Dubus events on Saturday

and found condx not very good. It was not the fact that

signals were no good, but I had Faraday lockout in both

passes for a long time.

In the first pass 2 stations were worked; LA8YB and DK3EE

both with loud signals. Tom amazingly loud with almost no tropo!

I called Chris SP7DCS and hrd him returning, but because of

technical problems at Chris' side, I lost his signals.

At start of the 2nd pass I heard F3VS amazingly loud working

Christian F0CXO, but I could not get the attention on his

CQ thereafter, neither that of Jurgen PE1LWT who was also

calling. It is the 2nd time I experience this with F3VS and do

not have the slightest clou what this can be?

After that I worked immediately Jorgen OZ1HNE with very fine

signals, but after our qso have heard long time nothing except

for the big guns W5UN, LA8YB and my own echo.

Just 20 minutes before end time Sigs came in all together and

I was able to work Chris SP7DCS for compensating the earlier

lost contact.

I worked 5 stations in total and have heard several others, but

not as much as I have heard before. I guess I had an off day

and also my own cq's gave no result, but it was a real pleasure

again and will be qrv next month.

A lot of parasitics moving the S-meter over the S-7 line. Also QRN and heavy rain in this part of EU. Troubles with my PA, only half of power than usually. No echoes quite all the time.Plus a lot of station calling me directly because of a high activity before of simultane terrestrial contests (also YO contest). Working only half of the contest time due the job obligations,no chance to be free! Hi! The strongest stations heard(in order) were: SM2CEW,DK3EE,F1FLA. Heard SV3AAF and PA3CWN.

conditions most of time. Thanks for DF9CY for calling me - I knew you

wanted to look for me, but I could not copy the call - please try next time.

Before second leg I had technical problem with LNA switching so I was

late a bit. Nice surprise was cw initial 308 with W3TWX from Vermont.

Hi EME'ers

I was only QRV in the second window of June DUBUS CW EME activity event on 144MHz because of sea fishing activity in the beautifull and warm weather we had here in OZ. I found good condition and very nice to hear so good activity on the band. Thanks to all for the QSO's and two new initials with OK2POI (thanks for your patience) and YU7XL. It was all great fun as always and I look forward to July DUBUS CW EME event.

Too many EME activities this weekend.. I tried to be active as much as I could but EME DX-expeditions and 70cm activity periods took it’s toll, so I was not QRV for the 2nd pass. Great signals during the first pass, despite the moon being in the trees for me. Most signals were coming in vertical with me.

Greetings gentlemen !

I unfortunately missed almost the half 1st leg of the event because I was travelling - however since I got home I switched everything on at once and stayed QRV full time.
This time I found things much more difficult compared to the European EME Contest - It was hard for me to find the signals and I managed to establish only two QSOs

03/05  1203  LA8YB     RO/O

Throughout the Activity Event I was using Jurgen's OZ1HNE signals as a beacon - FB Jurgen for your booming signal !
I also easily copied Finn at the 2nd leg. Beautiful signal, fast QSO - Mange takk skal du ha for en hyggelig QSO !
Apart from this I had the chance to partially copy a couple of french stations as well as IK2DDR -I believe- however they faded away before I had the chance to fully acknowledge them and call them back.
Now I am looking forward for more activity and get the most of what I can from my EME setup !

My compliments to all of the participants !!
See you off the Moon !

Hello All,

I was qrv in both legs for almost the full time and found

condx to be good at 1st leg but much qsb on the strong

signals.

The second leg was not that good at my side. Less activity

and much qrm from the neighbourhood gave only 1 qso

more.

I have been calling CQ several times for periods of almost

an hour and Peter returned at my CQ (again :-) ), so calling

CQ helped this day !

The signal from Jorgen was the most constant in both legs

and guess Jorgen switched pol on a regular base.

I had lots of troubles with the signal of Alex which was very

close to a birdie, but was able to copy all the info and very

glad to work Alex from KO40.

I worked these fine 6 stations with UFB operating practice:

A terrible snow storm rolled into Southern Ontario just in time for the
DUBUS event.  I had an S-7 noise level from precipitation during the
complete NA window so it was a complete bust for me. I sat for 3 hours
hoping for a break in the noise but it was not to be.
In the meantime I have also come to the conclusion that my RX system has
suffered some degradation so I am investigating.  Hopefully all will be
well for the next event.

During this event, i was active full time on 1st slot and just about 1 hour

on 2nd, due some commitment. Anyway i have enjoyed the cw activity and the good new

is that i have worked on random and for the 1st time on eme, the Sicily is.

I worked IT9CJC. It was really a good surprise to hear his call. Never worked him before on tropo or whatever. Marcello has now a team composed, by himself and a

couple of other operators. I wish that some other, following IT9CJC, example, will give us the pleasure to be present to our CW eme events. About the conditions, i found moments with good signals and strong own echo and others with some Faraday rotation.

Here my result in 4 hours of activity:

Hi,

As I wrote yesteday, I was qrv with 15 yagis (one yagi is broken) and

lower power due to bigger SWR.

Yesterday Murphy visit (5h to repair my PA) was not the last one...

After first pass gs35b tube went dead and I had to replace it.

Morover during second pass I had small damage in power supply and lost

some time repair also this issue;)

Anyway I worked following stations on 2m CW random. Condx were difficult

Hello All,

I was only able to join March 144Mhz Dubus event for a total of two hours. At least during the initial half hour of first window propagation was really poor. There was a propagation improvement during second slot but generally conditions here deteriorated as a whispering FM mode conversation showed up on 050:

- I am now crawling behind the bushes next to the olive tree, watch out don’t shoot me.

- Just checked the droppings of the bird, they are still warm, it should be close by….

and on and on…. for a long time; I don’t think they ever got the bird….

In between this mess I worked the following excellent EMEers that can break through any interference:

SV1BTR, LA8YB, SP7DCS, OK1MS

SV1BTR was qrv for a total of 4.5 hrs in the DUBUS 2m cw eme activity event of March.

Conditions were not good. 4db more noise due to Sun proximity 10 degrees away, especially in 1st pass. All signals and echoes suffering from deep qsb.

Hunters shooting non-stop but i shoot at the moon also, so that makes us colleagues i guess:-)

With my 21.5dbd 2m array despite bad propagation, smallest station worked once more was ON7EH with 12el. and 250w. Michel was coming in 529 on peaks! New initials with IT9CJC and PI9CM, no idea what they are running.

I would like to thank all European & Japanese stations who honored the event and gave me the pleasure to work them!

Result: 18 QSOs, the following fine stations / operators were worked on cw random heavyweight mode:

Here, as usual my final result, of this february DUBUS 2m CW EME EVENT.

I found an extremely good activity and i appreciate the presence of new

stations, like PE1BTX and OK1KKD. I wish that the number of

partecipants, improves with spring time, since march event.

Conditions, despite the excellent partecipation, were very bad until

last hour of the event, where all signals were very strong .

I had lot of signals on my LINRAD WATERFOOL, but sometimes, although

a big trace, i had really difficults to decode who was.

Anyway, many thanks to all and see you on next march event.

It was the continuation that the condition improved, and became bad.

The explanation of the picture.

2 of the right side are Japanese transmission tube.

7F43R,6F62R(tetrode). The left is 811A.

6F62R is television TX tube. Plate dissipation is 600W

7F43R is phone TX and OSC tube. Plate dissipation is 1000W

There is compatible and can change 6F62R and 7F43R immediately.

Score: (5 QSOs) x (10 pts/QSO) x (5 WPX prefixes) = 250

I may not understand the intended scoring formula. At

http://www.sm2cew.com/aw_rules.html I read these conflicting

words:

1. "Your total score for the night is the number of QSOs (with a bonus

score for QSOs with the three ‘rare’ continents) multiplied by the total

number of callsign prefixes worked."

(Note, tks for pointing this out Joe, corrected now)

2. "Each QSO completed scores 10 points"

Aside from the bonuses, is it 1 point per QSO, or 10 points per QSO ?

Is this intended to be a European contest, or a world-wide contest? The

moon was below my horizon for half of the specified contest time in

January. I seem to recall that there was some "adjustment factor" to

take account of this imbalance, last year. I see nothing about it in

the currently posted rules. Have I missed something?

- Joe, K1JT

Note. Yes, world wide participation is encouraged, but moon times during these relatively short events (compromises) may not always reflect this. The rules are indeed revised this year to make scoring easier, this means that adjustment factors have been taken out.

PA3CWN

First I want to thank the organizers of this monthly Dubus Event and I am very happy with achieving the 1st place in class B for 2007 Dubus Activity Nights.

So with a happy smile I was qrv in both windows but found condx not good.

Friday Night the wind was stronger as expected and the array was swinging in winds up to 7 Bft, which is really the limit for elevating the system. I worked 3 stations and in the second window I still found condx very poor so added only 2 , making a total of 5. I have been calling CQ for a long time above 046 but all I

saw were some traces and copied a F. Later it seemed that Petros was also calling CQ and it might have been callers for SV3AAF I saw. I also heard a station on 042 , later I saw him on 053 who had an unstable signal and low speed CW. I 1st thought

it was OK1MS. But later found Stan with stable sigs on 048, so it must have been another OK1 ?? Also around 045 I identified a signal, but very hard copy

and maybe that was Alex RU1AA.

Condx were that poor that it reminded me at the times of the single GI7 because I had to call the stations for a long time. I only have seen/heard my echoes in the last half hour of the 2nd window Hope condx in Feb. Event will be much better.

Here is my log for the January Event;

Hrd and called: IK2DDR. Sri Francesco but condx too bad ! Hrd: K1JT Joe in qso with Gary, I3EVK in qso with Stan, partially SV3AAF and hopefully catch Petros soon! Heard only with big tropo but eme trace; was Gerard PE1BTX who was calling Jimmy. Hopefully Gerard is also there in next Events when eme sigs are better , so I can try calling when doppler is high enough, so Spectran can filter the tropo out. But I had a lovely time again and will be on next month again and hope Doru YO2AMU has repaired the damage by then !

Hello MoonBouncers,

Running this years first event with a single yagi on 15dBd did not get me so many QSO in this 3dB degradation.

I managed to work SV1BTR and also found IK2DDR SV3AAF F0CXO OK1MS just by tuning the band with the help of the waterfall on the screen.

I feel anyway quite happy with the result to find some of the stations with no help besides my own station. Some are so strong so i guess they are heard by much smaller stations, but some are not that easy to find on random with a small antenna and this degradation.

It looks like the new preamplifier and all other parts in my station works as they should, so now its only to get those 4 yagis in the air as my goal is to have all up and running until April 12/13.

This is the date when the European EME contest 2008 will be held and i think we all should try to realley be as active as possible in this years contest.

Due the failure of my PA , it is not possible for me to take part at this event. Murphy was visiting my shack and the damage was proportionally with the power!

No time to fix the problem! It happens 15 min before contest. I am very sad!

Hope to work again in february!

Sorry!

GL to all contesters!

It has been a real fun again last year although I have had my

troubles with both equipment and antenna, but finally I am in

a good shape !

Condx have been excellent in the first window and ON4DPX

Kenny made my night in working him for a new initial and new

CW DXCC and nice working Jorgen OZ1HNE for the 1st time random.

Hrd and called were DK3EE and hrd fractions of Noriyuki JH0WJF,

DG5CST and CKR ? (sm2ckr??) were heard in qso with Jimmy.

2nd window was very poor and even Jimmy was weak and Tom DK3EE

had strongest sigs on the band here.

Congrats also to Peter SM2CEW who got me really quickly after I

started CQ and you must have super ears Peter , because I am not

the loudest station with ' only ' 4 x 2.4 wl in these poor condx !!

I want to thank all for this wonderful event and hope to meet you all

in 2008 again. I hope I can participate in all of the events !

Merry Xmas and HNY 2008 for everybody !!!

Heard with very good signals JH0WJF, SM2CEW and all...! Low activity in my oppinion ! Maybe the Christmas is close...!Very low,as usually,USA stations except K9MRI who take part in all EU contests! Also no stns from Russia. Heard / called for a short sequence RU1AA but I am not sure!

In the second window I was not able to hear my echoes for long time! Maybe too much fog at low elevation.

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year 2008 !
